429 — Too many requests for this endpoint

What happened

You sent more requests to this endpoint than its per-minute allowance permits.

Why it usually happens

The allowance is counted per key, per endpoint group, over a 60-second sliding window. Creating an audience, an experiment or an experiment metric is limited to 60 requests per minute per key. Reading a report is not rate-limited.

How to fix

  • Wait the number of seconds given in the Retry-After response header, then retry.
  • Read x-ratelimit-remaining on every response and slow down before it reaches 0.
  • Treat x-ratelimit-reset as the unix timestamp, in seconds, at which the oldest request leaves the window.
  • Cache results that do not change every minute rather than re-querying.
  • Spread scheduled jobs out instead of firing them all on the minute.
